As the Autumn approaches, the snow line in the Alps is creeping slowly downwards, as shown by this photo of a very wintery Cosmiques Arête a few days ago. The remnants of Hurricane Hannah (now downgraded to a cyclone), have passed the eastern seaboard of the States and now crossed the Atlantic towards Europe. The forecast for the weekend, when this disturbance arrives, indicates snow falling as low as 1800m, with 15 to 20cm of fresh snow at 2500m. Fortunately from Sunday morning onwards to the end of the forecast period looks sunny and warmer. We have courses running until 28th September this year, and this snow will help refresh the snow-bridges on the glaciers for another few weeks. Routes such as Chere Couloir are in great condition.
