One of our ice climbing course groups over in Val de Cogne yesterday reported good conditions on Cascade Lillaz. As you can see from the photo, the pools between the icefalls are not totally frozen, but the ice is well formed on the steep sections. Icicle IFMGA guide Gilles warned that in some places the ice has formed over snow on some of the routes, so more care must be taken than usual, and that even relatively easy routes should not be attempted by inexperienced parties. Others in our ice climbing groups have visited EMHM, Déferlante, Mini Couloir, Megeve, Contamines and also altitude ice on the Midi. The weather is good and settled until the weekend.
