Crevasse rescue day

Falling into a crevasse is a key (and very understandable) fear from those venturing on glaciers for the first time. Here is a picture from this weeks Winter Intro group on the Mer de Glace setting up a snow anchor to rescue a fallen climber – back luck for poor Oli for getting volunteered for that job! The course develops the group skills of building an anchor, escaping the system, evaluating the victims condition, developing a hoist system, and the rescue itself. In this photo the team are using an ice axe in a t-slot to build the anchor. Have a look at the course page for full details; http://www.icicle-mountaineering.ltd.uk/winteralpineintro.shtml
