With the driest Autumn on record, it didn’t look as if 2012 was going to be a good year for ice climbing, but we couldn’t have been more wrong. The cold temperatures of the last three weeks have seen some routes form for the first time in a decade. A couple of groups have even made probable first ascents of icefalls that have formed well for the first time near Sallanches. If you don’t want to miss out on the ice this year, take a look at our Winter Intro Ice & Alpine course running 11-17 March, which has a couple of final spaces available; http://www.icicle-mountaineering.ltd.uk/winteralpineintro.shtml
