With some snow on the forecast in the northern Alps over the next few days, everyone is keeping a close eye on the avalanche forecast. Today in Chamonix, for the first time in a long while, the risk is 1/5 below 2000m. The predicted snowfalls are light over the next few days, but the temperatures are taking a dip, with the lowest snowfalls due right down to 600m.
The off piste skiers will be very happy with these small top ups of snow, but they should appreciate the low avalanche risk we currently have, as there are great powder pockets still to be enjoyed at present, especially on the north facing slopes. Conditions for skiing the Crochues Berard and down from Plan d’Aiguille are reported to be excellent at present.
