The avalanche risk in the Mont Blanc massif was 4/5 yesterday, which dropped to 2/5 below 1800m today. This weekend saw the best two days off piste skiing so far this year, and the conditions are amazing. Above is a photo from this afternoon, of the Aiguilles du Chamonix (Charmoz, Grepon and Blatiere), all plastered in fresh snow.
The pisteurs (ski patrollers) have done an excellent job opening all the lifts quickly after the fresh snow, with only two lifts closed yesterday, which was an amazing achievement. Only the Montenvers train was closed all day, as the track was cleared, but that didn’t stop any of the Vallee Blanche skiers, as they easily skied down to the valley via Les Mottets. The next few days are due to get small snowfalls, so the conditions are going to get better and better. Great timing for the start of our key season for off piste ski courses.
