Here’s a photo of Paul nearing the summit of the Dent du Geant (Giants Tooth), situated on the border of France and Italy. This year we have had a lot of groups on this peak, and thanks to you all for sending in your photos and films of this amazing route. You can see the photo gallery by clicking here.
If you are keen to ascend this peak, the best option is to consider our Tech Ice & Classics course (click for itinerary), as we only have a few final spaces left this season; 17-23 Aug (1 space), 24-30 Aug (1 space) and 7-13 Sep (1 space). With the current conditions in the Alps, there is more snow than normal, and so snow and ice routes that are often out of condition in late June, are still in great condition and it’s mid August! It’s been a bizarre season, but there are many routes that have significantly benefitted, and we are seeing many ice climbers enjoying the conditions.
On this course the aim is to ascend a series of classic routes during the week, of which the Dent du Geant is just one. Other routes may include Chapelle de la Gliere, Couloir Chevalier, l’Index, NNE Arete of the Aiguille de l’M, Petite Charmoz, Arete des Papillons, Aiguille d’Entreves, Midi Plan Traverse, Chere Couloir, Pyramid du Tacul or Contamines Mazeud on Mont Blanc du Tacul. As you can see, there’s a huge amount to choose from, and only a week to climb as much as possible!
