We are delighted to announce that we have just teamed up with the Fix The Fells programme, who are a group of skilled rangers and volunteers who repair and maintain the mountain paths in the Lake District with funding from donations and partners. In an increasingly cynical world, where we are all swamped with corporate greenwash, we’ve been looking for a way we can genuinely give something back to the area and mountains we work in and call home.
Backdated to the start of 2015, we will donate £5 for every single person who attends one of our courses in the Lake District, to the Fix The Fells programme. We made the decision to support this scheme, following a day with the rangers on Scafell Pike, learning about how mountain leaders can better educate their groups to minimise impact on the incredibly sensitive landscape. As the Fix The Fells ranger Richard Fox told us; “It is always so good when the connection is made between the wear and tear of the fells and the enjoyment of visitors“.
We hope that this is the start of a long relationship between Icicle and Fix The Fells, and are really looking forward to supporting their great work. What impresses us most about this scheme is that all donations to Fix The Fells are spent locally, so we know that we are contributing directly to safeguarding the very fells that we take groups onto. Our £5 per person donation is significant in that many of our weekend courses cost just £99, so it is 5% of turnover for most Lake District based courses.
